My girlfriend came to Yichang for a conference, and since I'd never been to Hubei before, I tagged along and turned it into a free little trip. Before coming here, I didn't even know Yichang was in Hubei, but the city really surprised me. It's probably the only place I've been where the scenery is far more impressive than its reputation. It has mountains, water, the Three Gorges, and the Yangtze River, and the whole city is full of hills and slopes. It honestly feels like a smaller version of Chongqing. Definitely worth a visit.

Whenever I visit a new city, I like to spend some time walking around one of its parks. This one is a long, narrow park built along the Yangtze River. Thinking back, some of the lesser-known cities along the Yangtze are actually really beautiful, like Jiujiang and Yichang.
5. Chaotianhou Rafting

This was my first time rafting. Yichang has two well-known rafting spots, Jiuwanxi and Chaotianhou. The former is supposed to be a little more relaxed, while the latter is more intense. And yeah, Chaotianhou was definitely intense. My girlfriend's phone even got water-damaged during the trip, so that evening we had to go to a repair shop back in the city. The owner had clearly seen this plenty of times before—the moment we walked in, he asked, "Did you guys go rafting?"......
6. Three Gorges Waterfall

You can actually walk right through the waterfall here. It's rated as a 5A scenic area, and it definitely lives up to the rating. The waterfall with the rainbow was beautiful. There was so much mist from the falling water that my phone lens was covered in droplets, and the photos don't come close to how impressive it looked in person.
